Iranian commanders in Syria are advisors who just provide consultations to Syrian Army, said an official in Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The unnamed official described the false claims of Iran’s escalation of forces in Syria as a move to deviate attentions from current progress in Syria made by army and volunteer groups of Syrians and as a cap to hide all-out financial, militant, and intelligence support provided for terrorists by some western countries and their regional allies.
Iran’s presence in Syria is to support anti-terrorism fight and the claims are projections made by those who see their interests in danger, said the Iranian diplomat.
He added that foreign–supported terrorism in Syria and Iraq has destabilized the region and led to tragic occurrence of disasters to Iraqi and Syrian refugees fleeing toward Mediterranean countries.
Following the success of Syrian army backed by Russian airstrikes in fight against extremist terrorists, many western media especially Washington Post spread claims of “Iranian troops being deployed in northern and central Syria.”
